A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Check out the demo for my latest chill puzzle game, 6-Sided Stories!

Welcome to Idle Island! In this simple point-and-click village management sim you can construct magnificent projects, make scientific discoveries, and eventually build up your village to its full potential. Make sure to keep your villagers well fed, and watch as generations of your islanders transform a driftwood-littered beach into a colorful community.

Idle Island runs in real time, so be sure to check in on your villagers every few hours or days to ensure they're doing well and keeping busy.  It typically takes 1-2 weeks of casual play to experience everything Idle Island has to offer.

I'm  continuously working Idle Island, so any feature suggestions or feedback is welcome! If you fill out my very short feedback form here, you can add a name to the pool of random villager names available in the game.

There is a lightweight .jar file available for those who have java, otherwise grab a Windows or Mac .zip file to get playing!

i love this game so much! it took me a few restarts to figure out what I needed to focus my villagers on for the first 2 generations, but after that things have been going very well!

I am curious about one of the parts of the shrine of glory: the third one specifically. When i built the shrine i already had the top three glories filled in, but I'm not sure what I did to achieve the "your villagers live a glorious life of leisure" glory. Does it have something to do with a certain amount of time spent relaxing?

i look forward to finishing the last few parts of this adorable game!

That's exactly right! Thank you for your kind words 😻

just a small thing i've noticed recently, but it seems like my villagers are living longer than they did in the early game! I might be noticing patterns where there are none, but was this intentional?

I think there's a research project that increases average lifespan! I made this game like 4 years ago so I'll admit I don't tooootally remember haha

It's so nice to hear that you're still enjoying it though 😊

Slowest idle game I've ever played, and yet villagers age at an obscene rate.  It takes years of a person's lifespan to complete a tiny structure.  Food gathering is horribly slow, so slow nearly everyone gathering food constantly can't even sustain the settlement.  If both of your children are the same gender, it screws your entire game since by the time you can get more villagers, everyone is too old to breed.  A 17 year old "child" refuses to work, so they will help the village starve and stagnate while they do nothing.

There's no reason to try out different things, because you have to wait an entire day of real life just to experiment.  Please, at least allow for faster speed options for people that don't want the painful slow experience.  This reminds me of that horror movie where people age an entire lifetime in 24 hours, but not in a fun way.

It's unclear which buildings you need to make to increase your max population, since there's a tent, a shelter, and cabins.  Of course buildings are slow you won't notice any progress on anything without waiting hours of real life, so you've wasted yet another entire playthrough where your village is screwed.

I really like the concept of this game but the balance issues and lack of feedback unfortunately make it unplayable for me.

how to unblock the river when my villagers don't have any experiance in construct.

they just say "dosn't understand what to do here at all"

i mean how to get experiance ???

They should start with building simpler things, like the cabins on the beach :)

for some reason my villagers wont build a dock

they wont build anything :( or gather anything

Hmm well it is quite a slow game, have you tried checking on them a day or two (in real life) after starting?

I hope more updates come out for this game it was a fun idle game.

Aw, thanks! I'm not really working on it anymore though.

When I download and launch it, nothing happens.

Bummer! What's your computer setup like?

I have windows 10 on a laptop.

(1 edit)

you probably have too much storage used up... thats what it sounds like at least

i only say cuz i opened it and it launched fine for me and im using the same thing as you

(1 edit)

what building do i build first and is the quickest

Definitely the shelter, which is already mostly built! The fishing docks will be helpful for food after that :)

but the progress meter barely even goes up

i left the game on last night and it finished,

but how long does it take for babys to grow

(+1)

It's a slow game, you can exit the game and come back and time will pass naturally. The whole thing takes about two weeks to play, checking in on it a couple times a day.

I am having an issue opening the game. It will fully load but then the screen will disappear the moment it finishes loading.

Aw, heck! Have you been playing it for a while, or is it from a fresh download? I know there's a bug later in the game with the science research.

(1 edit)

Hi, yes it was later into the game.

I'll work on fixing that next time I work on the game, thanks for bringing it up and I'm sorry it breaks the game :(

ok so i just had a baby grow to a new villager but no new villager spawned (population shows 4/5) but i only have 3 on the screen :(

nvm, i closed it and re-opened and the child showed up

phew, glad that worked out in the end :)

might be a bug, it keeps happening, if the game is closed and a baby ages up into a child it does not appear until the game is closed and re-opened. i got up to 8 villigers but my food ran out and they all starved lol, its hard to keep a good balance, since u cant mate 80 year olds with young'uns.  trying again :D

Good luck! Next time I work on the game I'll be sure to investigate that bug, thanks. :)

i see im not the only one who has played way too much virtual villagers XD

I don't know what you mean hehe

This is great! I haven't played many idle games but this one is compelling to me because it's about a little community rather than about maximizing money or whatever. I've found it surprisingly hard to survive and be productive before my people get too old to reproduce. But I think I'm figuring it out now.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it! It's definitely a priority for me to make the beginning of the game a bit easier and quicker, since there's some fun stuff in the late game but people need to actually make it that far to see it all haha

I love it! Unfortunately the Mac App didn't work for me (just unzipped to a raw Contents folder), but the jar works great!

Ah, nice! I don't have a mac so I couldn't test it, but I'm glad the jar worked for you :)

I know I'm a TAD bit late on this response, haha, but the .jar is actually inside the Contents folder, under Resources.

Nice! It's never truly too late haha

Nice game

Thanks! :)
